The Endocrine Disruption Exchange (Aug 3 2010)
A growing pandemic of endocrine-related disorders, such as ADHD, Parkinsons, Alzheimers, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity, early puberty, infertility and other reproductive disorders, and childhood and adult cancers, is seriously undermining the health and wealth of our nation. TAKE ACTION and demand greater research to identify endocrine disrupting chemicals and determine their safety.
Last December, Sen. John Kerry and Rep. Jim Moran introduced The Endocrine Disruption Prevention Act of 2009 (H.R. 4190) to develop reliable and reproducible methods to identify chemicals that can disrupt the human endocrine system.
The Endocrine Disruption Prevention Act of 2009 would facilitate the research necessary to determine whether certain chemicals are affecting human health. Specifically, the act would authorize an ambitious new research program at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) to identify endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) and establish an independent panel of scientists to oversee research and develop a prioritized list of chemicals for investigation. If the panel determined that a chemical presented even a minimal level of concern, it would compel the federal agencies with established regulatory authority to report to Congress and propose next steps within six months.
