EPA Moves on GHG Reporting Rule for Oil and Gas Operations

The EPA has developed a proposed rule to require oil and gas production facilities to monitor and report their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

In September 2009, EPA finalized its mandatory GHG reporting rule, but postponed decisions on reporting by several industries, including oil and gas. The proposed reporting rule will now be reviewed by OMB and other agencies. This is usually the last step before the agency publishes the proposed rule and begins accepting public comments.
